PADI Advanced Instructor

MASTER SCUBA DIVER TRAINER (MSDT)

The Master Scuba Diver Trainer Module is actually five PADI Specialty Instructor courses conducted in an integrated manner over 5 days. The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer course is designed to train instructors in how to organize, market and conduct the following PADI Specialty Diver Courses:

1.    PADI Wreck Diver
2.    PADI Deep Diver
3.    PADI EANx Diver
4.    PADI Underwater Navigator
5.    PADI Night Diver

The course involves academic presentations and 8 ocean boat dives. Candidates are shown how to conduct training dives, briefings and scenarios. Subjects include wreck mapping and survey, wreck penetration drills, use of wreck reels, navigation skills and techniques, enriched air diving considerations, dive planning and techniques, deep diving considerations and techniques, and night diving operations and techniques.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be a current PADI Instructor (or completion of an IDC or OWSI course within the last 12 months) and be certified as a PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver or hold a qualifying certification from another training organization.

Course Materials:
The following books and materials are required for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer course:
• PADI Specialty Instructor Manual
• PADI Navfinder

These books and materials are included with tuition when enrolled in Phase II.  If taking the MSDT as a stand-alone course, then the candidate is responsible for the purchase of the books and materials.  Prices are available on the Pro Dive Books and Materials Order Form.

Equipment Needed:
The following equipment is required for the MSDT course:
• Mask
• Fins
• Snorkel
• BCD with low pressure inflator system
• Single hose regulator with alternate air source device
• Submersible pressure gauge
• Depth gauge
• Compass
• Bottom timing device (computers are acceptable)
• Water resistant timing device (watch with second hand)
• Dive knife or tool
• Audible surface signaling device (whistle or other noise maker)
• Visible surface signaling device (tube or mirror)
• Underwater signaling device
• Pencil and underwater slate
• PADI RDP & eRDPPml
• PADI EANx Tables
• Underwater lights (primary and secondary)
• Cave/Wreck Reel and line
• Pocket mask & non-rebreather mask
• Logbook

Certification Awarded:
Five PADI Specialty Instructor ratings. Application fees included when enrolled in Phase III. Each specialty application requires 10 logged dives in that specialty. Candidates qualify for the PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating only after they have certified 25 PADI divers and submitted a separate application to PADI. The MSDT application fee of $63 is not included in the tuition and is payable to PADI upon 25 documented certifications
