Pro Dive Open Water Scuba Instructor Course

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course is a 5-day class designed to prepare qualified candidates to become PADI Instructors. This course is scheduled during the last 5 days of our Instructor Development Course (IDC.) Either the OWSI course or the entire IDC must be completed before attending the PADI Instructor Examination (IE)
Scuba instructors certified by other organizations may cross over to PADI by successfully completing the OWSI course and the IE.
Combining the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the OWSI course into a continuous program makes up the entire IDC.

*Please note that some career candidates will be required to apply for the PADI Assistant Instructor status until they have logged 100 dives.
NOTE: Candidates who do not hold the PADI Divemaster certification are required to pass the diver rescue skills assessment.

The following books and materials are required for the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course:
PADI IDC Crew-Pak w/ Guide to Teaching Manual, This Crew-Pak includes the following PADI materials:
Guide to Teaching; Law & the Diving Professional; Children & Scuba, Best of Undersea Journal, Business of Diving Books on CD-ROM; Adventures in Diving Instructor Cue Cards; Rescue Cue Cards; OW Lesson Planning Slate; OW Lesson Prep Slate; CW Aquatic Cue Cards; OW Aquatic Cue Cards; PADI Pro Logbook; OW Quizzes & Exams; Rescue Diver Final Exam; DM Final Exam Booklet; 2010 Specialty Instructor Manual on CD-ROM; Positive Approach Selling DVD; PADI Backpack.

*PADI Exam Booklets are not sold to candidates before they earn certification at that level

The IDC Deluxe Crew-Pak is included with tuition when enrolled in Phase II.  If taking Assistant Instructor as a stand-alone course, then the candidate is responsible for the purchase of the Crew-Pak.  Prices are available on the Pro Dive Books and Materials Order Form.

NOTE: All OWSI candidates are also required to have the current PADI Open Water Instructor Manual and current student materials from the PADI Open Water Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Rescue Diver and PADI Divemaster courses. These materials are not included in the Phase II cost.

Equipment Needed:
The following equipment is required for the Open Water Scuba Instructor Course:
• Mask
• Fins
• Snorkel
• BCD with low pressure inflator system
• Single hose regulator with alternate air source device
• Submersible pressure gauge
• Depth gauge
• Compass
• Bottom timing device (computers are acceptable)
• Water resistant timing device (watch with second hand)
• Dive knife or tool
• Audible surface signaling device (whistle or other noise maker)
• Visible surface signaling device (tube or mirror)
• Underwater signaling device
• Pencil and underwater slate
• PADI RDP & eRDPml
• Underwater lights (primary and secondary)
• Pocket mask & non-rebreather mask
• Logbook

Schedule & Dates:
At Pro Dive we offer two scheduling formats for you to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor – Semester Scheduling and Career Scheduling.  Semester Scheduling is conducted on nights and weekends, and our Career Scheduling is done in consecutive days.

Certification Awarded:
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification is awarded upon successful completion of the PADI Instructor Examination held immediately after the OWSI course.
